EU AI Act Disclosure for AI Phone Agent Greetings

How the EU AI Act affects your AI Phone Agent greetings, what Zeeg handles automatically, and how to write a compliant custom greeting.

Written by Fernando Figueiredo

The EU AI Act (Regulation (EU) 2024/1689) requires AI systems to disclose their AI nature to users at the start of every interaction. For Zeeg AI Phone Agents, every caller must be told they are speaking with an AI before the conversation begins. Zeeg adds this disclosure automatically to default and AI-drafted greetings — if you write a custom greeting, you are responsible for including it yourself.

The AI Phone Agent feature is available on paid Zeeg plans. Greeting settings are accessible to organization owners, admins, and partners.

What Zeeg handles for you

You do not need to add any disclosure language to a greeting you have not customized:

  • Default greetings — Zeeg's built-in inbound and outbound greetings already contain the required AI disclosure.

  • AI-drafted greetings — when you use Zeeg's AI to generate a greeting for you, the disclosure is added automatically before the draft is shown to you.

If your greeting falls into either category, no further action is needed.

How to write a compliant custom greeting

If you write your own greeting, state clearly at the very beginning — before any other content — that the caller is speaking with an AI. A simple example: "Hi, I'm [Company Name]'s AI assistant. How can I help you today?"

To edit your greeting:

  1. In your Zeeg dashboard, navigate to AI Agents and open the agent you want to configure.

  2. Click the Main Settings tab.

  3. Scroll to the Greeting (Inbound Calls) or Greeting (Outbound Calls) field, depending on which type of call you are configuring.

  4. Enter your greeting text. Below the field, Zeeg displays the following reminder: "The EU AI Act requires you to tell callers at the start of the call that they are speaking with an AI." Click Learn more to open the full regulation text on EUR-Lex.

  5. Click Save.

Disclosure in Workflow AI Phone call actions

The same requirement applies when you configure an AI Phone call action inside a Zeeg Workflow. When you enter the first message your agent will speak, Zeeg shows the same reminder below the message field. Apply the same rule: the very first sentence must disclose to the caller that they are speaking with an AI.

Frequently asked questions

Does this requirement apply to my business?

The EU AI Act applies to providers and deployers of AI systems operating within the European Union. If your Zeeg AI Phone Agent handles calls from EU-based callers, the disclosure requirement applies to you. Consult a legal advisor if you are unsure — Zeeg does not provide legal advice.

My agent uses the default greeting. Do I need to make any changes?

No. Zeeg's default greetings already include the required AI disclosure. No action is needed.

Does the disclosure have to appear at the very start of the greeting?

Yes. The EU AI Act requires callers to be informed at the beginning of the interaction. Place the disclosure before any other content — not partway through the greeting.

Will Zeeg modify my saved custom greeting automatically?

No. Zeeg only adds the disclosure to default and AI-drafted greetings automatically. A greeting you wrote yourself is preserved exactly as you saved it. The reminder shown below the greeting field is there to prompt you to include the disclosure when writing or editing custom greetings.
